Greece: Mitsotakis insists on ‘corona bonds’ during EU teleconference

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis participated in the teleconference of the EU Heads of State and Government on COVID-19.

According to government sources, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis insisted on the content of the letter for the issuance of ‘corona bonds’ signed by 9 leaders, stressing that the 9 countries supporting the proposal make up for 57% of the Eurozone’s GDP.

The Prime Minister pointed out that the United States has announced a $ 2 trillion fiscal support package with 3 million jobs already lost, stressing the need for bold initiatives.

Kyriakos Mitsotakis emphasized the mismatch between the terms used to describe this crisis (epic, unprecedented, etc.) and the measures taken so far, calling for every alternative way to achieve a single European response to be explored.

On the issue of Turkey, Mr. Mitsotakis briefed his counterparts on the ongoing provocations at the border, noting that Greece would continue to protect its borders, which also operate as the external borders of the European Union. He underlined that the prerequisite for any further discussion to be carried out with Turkey was for the neighboring country to put an end to the provocations. /ibna
