Greece: Mitsotakis announces 10 billion-euro support package

The Greek Prime Minister addressed the public once again on Thursday, announcing a 10 billion-euro budget revision to tackle the spread of coronavirus, but also to reduce the economic and social impact of the epidemic. In addition, Kyriakos Mitsotakis stressed that the Easter bonus would be paid to those employees entitled to it, while an extraordinary Easter subsidy would be given to the “heroes in white and green shirts” referring to the nursing staff and the civil servants. Those measures are added to the announcements made by the Ministers of Economy, Labor and Development on Wednesday which amounted to € 3.8 billion.

Earlier, SYRIZA President Alexis Tsipras sent out his own message to the Greek Prime Minister that he should not even think about not providing the Easter bonus, while he went on to accuse Kyriakos Mitsotakis of trying to manage the situation with aspirins while a brave rescue plan was required at least until the end of the year, covering the whole economy horizontally.
