Nearly 2,000 migrants and refugees reached the northern Aegean islands in March was what the Greek authorities announced on Monday, April 2. More than 1,300 of them arrived on Lesbos, 541 on Samos and 58 on Chios.
February was the month with the lowest level of flows with less than 1,000 persons, whereas in January over 1,500 people got to the islands.
“According to Turkish Coast Guard’s website, in March it intervened in 34 incidents within Turkish territorial waters and sent 1,409 migrants and refugees back to Turkey.
Two more boatloads arrived on the island of Samos between the morning of April 1 and Monday morning, one with 84 people on board on Sunday and a second boat with 60 passengers on Monday that is being towed to the island”, the Greek news agency ANA-MPA reports.
