A strong earthquake, 6.1 on the Richter scale was recorded at 09:23 local time, with the epicenter of the earthquake being, according to the Geodynamic Institute of the National Observatory of Athens, 20 km south of the island of Antikythera, 258 km from the capital Athens. The focal depth is estimated at 70 km.
The earthquake was particularly felt in Crete, the Peloponnese and Athens. No casualties have been reported so far.
According to Greek seismologists, there is no connection between this earthquake and the one recorded in Albania, while they appeared reassuring, due to the large focal depth./ibna
