Greece: 73 new cases – Shopping malls, restaurants and bars are shutting down

The total number of confirmed cases in Greece has risen to 190, with an increase of 73 cases compared to yesterday’s announcements. Five of the patients remain in critical condition, according to Health Ministry spokesman Sotiris Tsiodras.

Due to the spread of the outbreak, the Committee of Experts recommended further measures to tackle the pandemic. For this reason, it was decided that all malls, cafes, bars and all places in general serving food except for deliveries, alongside libraries, museums, sports facilities, as well as beauty centers would remain closed. Supermarkets, bakeries and every service related to the food chain and the retail market will remain open.

In addition, special measures will be implemented for civil servants belonging to vulnerable groups.

Health Minister Vassilis Kikilias said in his remarks that the expansion of the preventive measures to tackle the spread was because of two reasons; first, because outbreaks have occurred in various parts of the country and secondly because citizens have not been adopting the self-restraint measures.

“We are fighting a battle the outcome of which will be decided by whether we show individual responsibility and collective consciousness”, Vassilis Kikilias concluded. /ibna
