Government of Kosovo allocates 43 million euros worth of subsidies in agriculture

Minister of Agriculture, Memli Kransiqni reported today in front of the parliamentary committee for agriculture for the 2016 plan and last year’s developments in this ministry.

Krasniqi said that most of the budget of the Ministry of Agriculture goes for two programs that support farmers, for grants and subsidies amounting to 43 million euros.

Krasniqi declared that for this year, the number of farmers that will be assisted with subsidies and grants is growing.

In 2015, the number of beneficiary farmers was 37 thousand, while this year, this number is expected to be 40 thousand. Krasniqi said that based on the figures provided by Customs of Kosovo, export of agricultural products increased by 6% in 2015 compared to 2014. According to him, last year, investments in agriculture employed around 1600 people.

But, LDK lawmaker, Adem Salihaj said that he’s not happy with the grants allocated for the farmers of Kosovo.

He said that EU member countries allocate half of the budget for agriculture. Salihaj raised the issue of fertilizers, which according to him, do not have the right content. /balkaneu.com/
