Although it was warned a few months ago that a general strike was going to be held, this strike will not take place today in elementary and high schools.
This decision follows yesterday’s meeting between the Union for Education, Science and Culture (UESC) and minister of Education, Abdilaqim Ademi. This meeting led to an accord for the suspension of the strike and the start of talks in order to solve the requests addressed by unionists.
A press statement launched by UESC says that a unanimous decision has been taken in order to suspend the strike and allow the government to meet their requests until December.
Head of UESC, Jakim Nedelkov said that the meeting with the minister of Education, Abdilaqim Ademi has been constructive and that an agreement was reached to continue the negotiations.
“I have the impression that in the future, ministry of Education will have a serious approach to the solution of problems in elementary and high schools. We brought our stances closer and I’m convinced that if there’s a will by both sides, joint solutions will be found”, said Nedelkov.
Ministry of Education and Science has issued a press release where it has greeted the agreement with unionists which led to the suspension of the strike.
“Ministry of Education and Science backs this decision and in line with the will manifested by both sides, it will continue to engage and contribute in order to make social dialogues more efficient and effective”, said the minister of Education, Abdilaqim Ademi.
The union demands the pay increases, solution of collective agreements and the reviewing of laws concerning elementary and high schools. /ibna/
