Galatasaray and Chelsea played to an entertaining 1-1 draw at the Turk Telecom Arena on Wednesday night for the first leg of the UEFA Champions League phase of 16.
Fernando Torres scored just 10 minutes following a disaster at the back for the Lions. The Blues had many chances to double their lead before the break, but did not take advantage of them.
Roberto Mancini’s changes at the break made Galatasaray more dangerous applying constant pressure on the Blues. Their good play was rewarded when Aurelien Chedjou scored from a corner, after being left unguarded inside the penalty area.
Galatasaray will now have a difficult road ahead of them, but the second half performance leaves hope for something good in Stanford Bridge in about two weeks time.
Galatasaray starting lineup: Fernando Muslera; Emmanuel Eboue, Hakan Balta, Aurelien Chedjou, Alex Telles, Izet Hajrovic, Selçuk Inan, Felipe Melo, Wesley Sneijder, Burak Yilmaz, Didier Drogba.
Chelsea starting lineup: Petr Cech; Branislav Ivanovic, John Terry, Gary Cahill,Cesar Azpilicueta; Frank Lampard, Ramires; Willian, Schurrle, Eden Hazard; Samuel Eto’o.
