In the “longest” Champions league match ever played, Galatasaray won 1-0 knocking Juventus out of the Champions League. The match was cancelled on Tuesday night after 32 minutes in the game by the Portuguese referee Pedro Proença due to the heavy hailstorm.
The “golden” goal was scored by Wesley Sneijder, 5 minutes before the final whistle in a muddy pitch, sending the “Turks” to Champions League heaven and Juventus to the Europa league.
Sneijder converted Didier Drogba’s smart header into a goal with a lovely finish in Buffon’s bottom right corner.
The draw was enough for the Old Lady to progress to the next stage along with Real Madrid and the difficult conditions made it appear as if it would be very difficult for either side to score.
“It was a difficult game because the pitch was really difficult, but in the end the team deserved to win” said Galatasaray coach Roberto Mancini.
