FYROM: The law on languages reaches parliament again

Today, parliament of FYROM is scheduled to hold debates on the law concerning the use of languages, which advances the Albanian language, but which was not decreed by the president of the country, George Ivanov. After this meeting, the law was sent back to parliament for a second reading.

But, this has also pushed MPs of VMRO-DPMNE to return to parliament. This party is against this law and, in order to block it, it has proposed 32 thousand amendments. This is a record number and several months are needed to deliberate them.

“They came back not to debate, but to block”, said the Macedonian Social Democratic Union (SDSM). Meanwhile, VMRO-DPMNE said that the law is in violation of the Constitution, because it favors the Albanian language and discriminates other communities. /balkaneu.com/
