In Skopje, the Democratic League (LD) launches a new proposal for the holding of the next elections of the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia. The LD proposes for the whole of the country to be one singe constituency and not divided into some, as it currently is. Meanwhile, it also demands for the proportional electoral system to be preserved.
Leader of LD, Pavle Trajanov says that if FYRO Macedonia is one single constituency then parliament will truly reflect the will of the citizens.
According to him, this model also offers opportunities for newly formed political parties and for small ethnic communities.
According to him, if the country is one single constituency, then Parliament will be a real reflection of the will of the citizens.
On the other hand, he believes that there will also be very few chances for electoral rigging. “If the whole of the country is one single constituency, then possibilities for violation of electoral rights will be minimized significantly”, he says.
Mr. Trajanov also believes that with this new organization that LD, political parties must collaborate and create the necessary conditions for more responsible governing.
Trajanov issued a public appeal from Skopje for all political parties to back LD’s incentive. /balkaneu.com/
