In the report published today by Reporters without Border on the freedom of media, FYR Macedonia ranks 117th among 180 countries of the world.
This continues to rank the country among those countries where freedom of speech and functioning of the media are censored. However, last year, FYROM’s positioning was worse, as it ranked 123rd. The report underlines that the situation of the media in the country continues to be bad. The report underlines abuses and tolerance of the justice system as far as the conviction of journalists is concerned and also the allocation of funds for government campaigns for certain media.
FYROM is worse than other countries of the Balkan, being positioned behind Montenegro, which is 114th, Bulgaria which is positioned 106th, Albania 82nd, Serbia 67th, etc. The report also says that journalists have problems while reporting. The report underlines the conviction with imprisonment of the Macedonian journalist, Tomislav Kezarovski, who during 2014 was placed on house arrest, as in October 2013, he was sentenced to 4,5 years in prison, for leaking the identity of a protected witness. /ibna/
