FYR Macedonia is considered to be one of the countries with the highest infant death rate in Europe. This was published by the Skopje based gender equality organization, HERA.

Based on the statistics of this organization, death rate among babies in FYROM has gone up by 14%, while the highest percentage on a European level is 5,2%.

State authority of statistics in FYROM says that the highest number of baby deaths has been registered in the eastern and southern part of the country in cities such as Gevgelija, Krusevo, Berobo, Dorjan.

HERA says that due to lack of funds, many small towns lack gynecologists and in these areas, the death rate among babies is the highest.

This organization demands an increase in the budget for the improvement of health services. /ibna/
