Political parties and organizations in favour of the “yes” vote in the referendum which will be held on September 30 in FYROM have intensified their campaign. Prime Minister Zoran Zaev has held meetings in Dojar and Valandovo, while the Foreign minister visited Tetovo where he called for support in the referendum which will decide the country’s new name.
“With the agreements reached with Greece and Bulgaria we extended our hand of friendship to everyone. Greece gained the erga omnes for the name, while we gained the erga omnes identity. True patriotism means bringing a real decision for the future of the country”, PM Zaev said.
In a meeting held in Tetovo, Foreign minister Nikola Dimitrov said that he’s confident that the majority of people will vote in favour of the new name.
Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration, Bujar Osmani told IBNA that his party, BDI (Democratic Union for Integration) will start the campaign on September 10.
“Albanians don’t need to be convinced about the referendum. Albanians are the ones who have constantly demanded for Macedonia to become a member of NATO and EU, because NATO will act as a guarantee that Albanians will be part of the European family and not under the Russian influence”, Osmani said.
The leader of the largest opposition party, VMRO-DPMNE Hristijan Mickoski declared yesterday from Kicevo that when it comes to national issues such as the September 30 referendum, it should be the people who should decide and not political elites. Mickoski has not yet declared if he’s in favour or against the referendum. /ibna/
