Frontex announced that its strengthening its presence in the Aegean, the Greek land border with FYROM and Albania, and Croatia’s border with Serbia and Bulgaria.
According to the announcement, “Frontex will strengthen its existing presence in the Greek islands in the Aegean and will help with the registration and fingerprinting of immigrants in the Greek land border with FYROM and Albania. It will also strengthen its presence in Croatia’s border with Serbia”.
Also in a statement, Frontex’s Executive Director, Fabrice Legheri stresses that the agency “will initiate additional activities in Greece, Bulgaria and Croatia for the management of EU external borders in a more coordinated way”.
For its additional activities, the Agency had asked the member states of the EU and Schengen associated countries to provide 775 border guards, 610 for Greece and 105 for new operation in the Western Balkans. However until now, the Member States have agreed to provide 326 employees.
