French Interior minister, Christophe Castaner had a meeting today with the Albanian Interior minister, Sander Lleshaj. After the meeting, where a whole range of issues affecting both countries were discussed, the French official declared that the number of Albanian asylum seekers in France in 2018 had declined by 25%. According to him, the same trend is also expected to continue this year
“I had a meeting with my Albanian counterpart, Sander Lleshaj. We confirmed our commitment to intensify joint operations against illegal emigration of Albanians to France. 25% less asylum requests from Albanians in 2018: this trend is expected to continue in 2019”, French Interior minister Castaner wrote on Twitter.
Meanwhile, 2015 was the year when the number of Albanian nationals seeking asylum in EU member countries reached its peak. However, year after year, following the measures taken by the Albanian government and the high percentage of asylum refusals, this number has gradually gone down. /ibna/
