FYROM’s Foreign Ministry has reacted against a declaration made by the Greek Foreign Minister, Nikos Kotzias, who, a few days ago, said in a speech delivered at the Athens’ Chamber of Commerce that FYROM cannot become part of the EU for as long as it shows irredentist tendencies toward Greece about the name contest.
“There’s no basis for Greece to fear any sort of Macedonian irredentism. This perception aims at diverting attention from the real obstacles in the European integration of the Republic of Macedonia, namely the 2011 ruling of the International Court of Justice”, the Foreign Ministry’s reaction says.
This ministry demands for the issue of trust between the two sides to be addressed.
“Irredentism is not something that belongs to the Republic of Macedonia, which is constantly engaged for regional cooperation. We also hope that this is accepted by our southern neighbor”, Foreign Ministry in Skopje says. /balkaneu.com/
