Football Federation in former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia has demanded FIFA to take a decision on the request for the matches of the Premier League of the country to be withdrawn from betting companies. The request comes as a result of the fact that football clubs in FYROM do not have a financial interest in the bets that companies offer. Also, clubs have often been accused of match fixing.
“Steering Committee of the Football Federation of Macedonia, discussed in its meeting the request sent to FIFA in which it demands the eventual withdrawal of the matches of the Macedonian championship from the offers of betting companies”, confirmed the federation.
According to the request addressed to FIFA, the clubs of the Football Federation do not have a financial interest on the offers of betting companies. Sometimes, there are also suspicions on the honesty of these clubs and sport behavior in the matches”, says the Football Federation.
FIFA is yet to react on this request.
This news has been criticized by football specialists and analysts. Reshat Ibrahim, a sport analyst told IBNA today that this is a ridiculous decision and that the Federation must not take such stance. “I think that this is the wrong decision and an absurd one. Macedonian Football Federation damages the image of the National League in the international arena through this decision”, says Ibrahimi. /ibna/
