State of emergency has been declared in the eastern part of FYR Macedonia, as a result of the floods taken place in this area.

Rivers and the artificial lake of Kalimanc have caused floods in large areas of agricultural land, homes and businesses. Government authorities have appointed an emergency committee, which has taken the necessary measures to evacuate residents from flooded areas.

PM Nikola Gruevski and a part of his cabinet have been in the flooded areas last evening, following the situation and helping the residents.

Gruevski said that all measures are taken to put residents at safety from the floods, which are expected to be even more dangerous due to the high levels of water.

“We’re doing maximum efforts in order secure dangerous areas. Most of the government cabinet is on field. Military and other state services are mobilized in order to help with the evacuation of the residents”, said Gruevski. /ibna/
