The European Union will not impose extra criteria for the start of accession talks with Albania.
This was announced by the rapporteur on Albania in the European Parliament, Knut Fleckenstein, who is on a visit to Albania and has held meetings with senior state authorities.
“The decision for the opening of the negotiations belongs to the Council of Europe and not the European Parliament. However, we will work hard in order for the negotiations with Albania to be launched in the first half of next year. I repeat, it’s not the EP that decides this”, Fleckenstein said.
As far as the problem with the cultivation of cannabis is concerned, Fleckenstein said that this remains a serious problem for Albania.
“As far as cannabis is concerned, I shall wait for the report of the Italian partners who have conducted flights over the territory. It’s something serious and measures should be taken in the future”, the MEP said. /balkaneu.com/
