Fire in the Orthodox Church bus, one dead and 12 wounded

A bus carrying representative of the Christian community, traveling from Vlora to Kruja has been engulfed by flames, leading to fatal consequences.

This happened in front of the health clinic in Kruja, when the bus coming from Vlora was suddenly engulfed by flames.

The flames were immediately spread inside the bus.

The head of public relations at the Police of Durres, Elona Muca told IBNA that a woman lost her life during this incident and 12 other people have received burns of varying degrees. They were immediately taken to the hospital of Durres.

Five of the wounded are said to be in a critical state and were rushed to Tirana.

The cause of the fire is suspected to be an electrical spark in the posterior side of the engine. Police of Durres has launched an inquiry on this.

Witnesses inside the bus that was engulfed by flames this noon in Kruja, said that in order to escape the flames, they had to break the glass with heavy objects. They said that they had to come out of the windows to escape the fire.

It is confirmed that the passengers are representatives of a religious community. IBNA contacted the Autocephalous Church of Albania in its seat in Tirana. One of its officials said that the bus had on board a group from the church of Saint Theodor in Vlora, part of the Albanian Autocephalous Church. The official didn’t offer any further details. /
