US ambassador to Tirana, Donald Lu, declared today that the cultivation of narcotic substances in our country has significantly dropped and he praised the work done by police so far.
“War against narcotics and organized crime has seen a great leap forward with the air operation conducted by Guardia di Finanza and Albanian police. Information collected this year confirmed the extraordinary progress in destroying narcotic plants in Lazarat and saw the discovery of new areas of cultivation. As a result of these efforts, we believe that general cultivation of cannabis in Albania is much smaller”, ambassador Lu said.
For the USA, crime remains crime and as such, it must be treated the same. In his address during a conference dubbed “Anti-narcotics, a success story”, the US diplomat in Tirana also talked about corruption and American assistance in this aspect.
“USA backs the fight against organized crime and corruption. We have just appointed a federal prosecutor to work with anti-corruption unit at the Prosecution of Serious Crimes”, Lu said.
Lu also called on the political class to collaborate.
“Majority and opposition have often accused each other for ties with crime. Fight against crime must defeat all political interests. Albania needs all leaders to work together in fighting criminals, traffickers and corrupt officials”, Lu said. /ibna/
