President of FYR Macedonia, George Ivanov said today that state authorities have prevented the entry of thousand illegal refugees from crossing the border. According to him, this was prevented by setting up barbed wire fences.
“The setting up of fences has prevented almost 19 thousand illegal refugees from entering the country in illegal routes. Now we’re carrying out the second stage of the fence, which will also prevent refugees from crossing”, declared president Ivanov on a visit on the border crossing point with Greece.
Ivanov said that after the introduction of the new measure which only allows the crossing of Syrian, Afghan and Iraqi refugees, the number of refugees from other countries has increased. President Ivanov said that great efforts are being made to introduce the biometric register for refugees, in order to have a better control. /ibna/
