Exports of goods in June 2016 dropped by 6,4% compared to the same period of last year, states an official report which was published today by the Albanian Institute of Statistics (INSTAT).

Imports too saw a fall in June with 1,6% compared to May, but they saw a growth compared to 4,1% compared to June 2015.

Meanwhile, trade deficit has grown by 14,4% compared to June of last year.

Compared to May 2016, deficit has dropped by 9,3%.

Leader of opposition, Lulzim Basha sees the figures for the first half of this year as an indicator of the fact that according to him, the economy has sunken deeper into crisis and that consumption and production in the country have fallen.

Basha says that as far as the first half of the year is concerned, exports are 7,8% lower than the period January-June 2015.

For the democrat leader, these figures show “the struggle of the business sector to produce and survive under the hostile and violent behavior of this government, which increases taxes, fines, prices of power supply and which doesn’t offer any services”.

Basha also identifies the problem on “the high taxes, corruption and hostility against work and production, have forced many businesses to shut down or cut jobs”.

Leader of opposition says that purchasing power has reached an all time low, due to poverty, unemployment and lack of incomes. /balkaneu.com/
