President of Kosovo, Hashim Thaci has asked for the process for the liberalization of the visa regime must be finalized as soon as possible.
He declared that it is unacceptable that the citizens of Kosovo continue to be deprived of the right to move without visas in the EU member countries.
“Since the very start of dialogue for the liberalization of the visa regime, we have faced a different approach by the European Commission in relation to Kosovo, because we have been asked to deliver twice as many criteria than the other countries of the region. In contrast to any other country of the region, Kosovo has delivered all the criteria”, he said.
Even though this approach of the European Union toward Kosovo is considered unfair, according to president Thaci, the truth is that the decision of the EU institutions for the liberalization of visas depends on the ratification of the Border Demarcation Agreement with Montenegro and the yielding of concrete results in the fight against organized crime and corruption.
But, according to president Thaci, government of Kosovo has now reached an agreement for the demarcation of the border with Montenegro and this criterion can be considered fulfilled if we refer to the 2012 visa liberalization guideline. /balkaneu.com/
