European Commission refers Bulgaria to European Court for air pollution

The European Commission has filed a lawsuit in the Court of Justice of the European Union against Bulgaria for non-compliance with the court’s decision regarding air quality and the continuous violation of the limit values for particulate matter. The lawsuit could result in a fine, according to the Bulgarian news agency BTA.

The European Commission has informed Bulgaria that it has not presented a long-term strategy for the energy shielding of buildings, that it does not fully implement European legislation on oil reserves, that it does not comply with all safety requirements for road tunnels. A final warning was also issued due to persistent weaknesses in the implementation of European nature protection legislation under the Natura 2000 program. /ibna
