European Association of Journalists has requested from Macedonian authorities to release journalist Zoran Bozinovski, who is being kept in custody for more than 6 months. Bozinovski is accused of being part of a group suspected of espionage in the “Spy” case, which include employees of secret services, state officials, lawyers, etc.
Ricardo Gutierez of the European Association of Journalists said that he’s even more disappointed about the fact that state authorities have not responded to the request to visit Bozinovski.
“I am disappointed about the fact that on 13 April of this year, government of Macedonia, has signed an agreement, upon the recommendation of the Council of Europe for the protection and safety of journalists, but it doesn’t respect it in line with the legislation relating the violation of the rights of journalists”, Gutierez said.
Bozinovski has been kept in custody for the past six months in the prison of Suto Orizare, following his extradition from Serbia, where he was kept in custody for 18 months.
He had reached the neighboring country to evade arrest, but in April of this year, he was extradited by the Serb authorities.
The Association of Journalists has said that the case is political and a message for journalists to keep quiet and not criticize the government. /balkaneu.com/
