Eurogroup starts in good spirit

In a positive climate for Greece began in Zappeio Palace the meeting of Eurogroup. The two issues that dominate the agenda are the schedule for the installments and the evaluation of the troika, with the Greek Finance Minister, Mr. G. Stournaras, stating while coming to the meeting that the main topic of discussion of Ecofin will be the consolidation of the banks.

The relevant Community Commissioner, Mr Olli Rehn, on his part, said that important decisions were taken by the Greek Parliament and that there will be a political adoption of the agreement that was reached at a technical level. In regard to the formal decisions on the installments, Rehn said they will taken in due time.

From his part, the President of Eurogroup, Mr. G. Ntaiselmploum, noted that today the European finance ministers will be briefed by the troika. “We hope to have positive results… “, added Mr. Ntaiselmploum. “It’s nice to be in Greece, now that it is recovering and while it shows a primary surplus… ”

When asked about when the debate on the new settlement of the greek debt will start, the chairman of the Eurogroup said it would be on the basis of the data from Eurostat (regarding the size of last year’s primary surplus), and added that “we will return to the discussion during summer or later”.

Given the nature of the meeting of the Eurogroup (informal), but also because the troika has not yet completed its evaluation of the provisions of the multi-bill that was passed, there will be no final decision today on the release of further installments. However, the manner with which they will be made available has already been designed, along with the prerequisites that must be implemented by the government for the allocation of the release of the full amount.
