Foreign Minister Nikola Popovski declared that FYR Macedonia is expecting from the new European commissioner for enlargement, Johannes Hahn to help in avoiding the Greek blockade and in reaching a compromise for the name.
Popovski declared this when he was asked about his expectations from the new European commissioner for enlargement, Johannes Hahn.
“The European Commissioner has no interest on seeing another recommendation being issued for the opening of accession talks or to wait for Greece to lift the veto placed in the EU Council for our country. I believe that there’s a climate of support by several EU member countries that enable Euro commissioner Hahn to conduct an effective dialogue and to create a suitable climate for Greece to lift the blockade. For us, it’s crucial to launch EU accession talks”, said Foreign Minister Nikola Popovski.
Asked if it’s necessary to change the platform for the negotiations of the name, the form or dynamic, due to the lack of progress after negotiations with Greece which have lasted many years, minister Popovski said that Greece is not interested in overcoming the contest.
“I’d like to remind you Samaras’ thesis, who in several occasions said that the best solution for Greece is not to solve the name dispute in order cause instability and regional difficulties. I think that this is neither in the interest of Macedonia, nor in the interest of EU. If we look a little deeper, this is not even in the interest of Greece”, said the head of the Macedonian diplomacy, who has commented the name dispute with Greece and the visit announced by the Euro enlargement commissioner, Johannes Hahn in Skopje. /ibna/
