Albania doesn’t have the necessary conditions to welcome refugees that come from war zones, mainly from Syria and Iraq.
This declaration was made by the representative of the Social Economic Committee in the EU, Ionut Sibian, during an activity held in Shkoder.
“I think that nobody is expecting from Western Balkan countries to welcome refugees from Eastern countries as your economic situation and the budget doesn’t allow you to help many people”, he said.
According to Mr. Sibian, the EU is expecting from Western Balkan countries to try and stop these routes for refugees.
“Turkey is the country that welcomes the most and from there, refugees cross the sea or the land into Greece. This is why it is a very delicate issue”, said the representative of the Social Economic Committee in the EU, Ionut Sibian.
Sibian is in Shkoder in the framework of a meeting which will be held in Brussels from 17 to 19 March, a youth debate dubbed “Your Europe, your opinion”.
For the first time, Albania will participate in this incentive as an EU associate member country.
The students of “Father Pjeter MEshkalla” in Shkoder will be the ones that will represent Albania in this edition that gathers 400 young people from 28 EU member countries and 5 associate member countries. /ibna/
