The European Union has not been notified on the suspension of the agreement for insurance policies between Kosovo and Serbia, while the head of the Kosovo delegation who handles this issue, Rrahim Pacolli says that the suspension that has been announced, is not being applied. Pacolli says that this suspension is not being applied by Kosovo institutions.
“For unknown reasons, Kosovo’s institutions are not applying the decision to suspend the agreement. Based on the information that we have, this has been ordered by high ranking state officials”, Pacolli said, complaining that the Kosovo Bureau for Insurance signed this agreement and that it should be this bureau that suspends it.
But, the EU doesn’t have knowledge on this suspension.
“We have not been briefed on the suspension of the memorandum of understanding. The sides have agreed that this memorandum will regulate all issues through an implementing committee and this is the forum where all issues concerning motor insurances will be handled”, says Maja Kocijancic, spokeswoman of the EU head of foreign policy, Federica Mogherini.
The suspension of the agreement was announced by the Kosovo side because the Serb authorities continue to oblige cars with Kosovo license plates to change these plates upon entry in order to pay a 5 euro charge. Pacolli insists that this is not part of the agreement signed in Brussels on June 23 in Brussels, an agreement which started to be implemented on August 12. /ibna/
