The European Union has invited the leaders of the four main political parties in FYROM to hold talks in Vienna in order to unblock the political crisis. The main party in power, VMRO-DPMNE, has accepted this invitation, but through a party delegation. The visit to Vienna was also confirmed by the other party of the governing coalition, BDI (Democratic Union for Integration).
The chairman of this party, Ali Ahmeti has confirmed his visit to Vienna and the fact that he will honor the invitation made by the EU Enlargement Commissioner, Johannes Hahn.
Opposition party SDSM (Macedonian Social Democratic Union) conditioned its participation in Vienna. Leader of this party, Zoran Zaev said that this party will participate in these talks only of the president of the country, George Ivanov withdraws his decision for amnesty and if parliament cancels the June 5 election date.
“SDSM wants to conditions to be met. First, Ivanov must abolish the amnesty and secondly, parliament must cancel the decision for elections”, said the leader of opposition, adding that if there’s a will to meet these requests, they could be met within a day. The opposition leader said that he has informed Brussels on these conditions.
The other opposition party, PDSH (Albanian Democratic Party) has not yet expressed its stance as to whether it will participate in these talks or not.
EU’s spokesperson, Maja Kocijancic has commented Friday’s meeting in Vienna.
“The scope of this meeting is to discuss the best way on how to solve the crisis and make sure that leaders will continue to implement the Przino Agreement and the reforms, in order to show that there’s a will to be back on track in terms of European Atlantic integration”, Kocijancic said.
But the Belgian negotiator for the solution of the political crisis in FYROM, Peter Vanhoute, said that civil society too will be invited to Vienna, as in the recent days, it has been organizing protests. /balkaneu.com/
