The European Union offers financial guarantees for the project of the 400 kV interconnection line between Albania and FYR Macedonia. This was confirmed during a meeting held in Vienna between ministers of energy of Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, FYROM, Kosovo, Montenegro and Serbia.
During this meeting, the six Balkan countries expressed their will for the creation of a regional market. Until 2016, these countries will take a number of measures to respond to the requirements of the Energy Community for an open, competitive and independent market.
In his speech, Albanian Minister of Energy briefed the participants on the steps that Albania is taking in the framework of the reform in the energy system and the projects of transmission lines with neighboring countries such as Kosovo and the one with FYROM which will soon be built.
Gjiknuri also demanded support for the important project of creating a branch of the Trans Adriatic Pipeline TAP with the Ionian Adriatic Pipeline IAP. According to him, this investment benefits the diversification of sources for a part of the Balkan countries.
On his part, EU Enlargement Commissioner, Johannes Hahn says that energy is now not only an issue of good neighborhood, but also an issue of enlargement. According to him, energy security is a challenge for all of Europe, therefore efforts for the diversification of sources must be common. /ibna/
