The European Union issued a press statement today where it has praised the political talks launched in FYR Macedonia and encouraged sides to overcome differences between majority and opposition.
Spokeswoman of the European Commission, Maja Kocijancic said in this statement that the EC praises the meeting held between leader of VMRO-DPMNE, Nikola Gruevski and that of LSDM (Macedonian Social Democratic League), Zoran Zaev, in order to solve political disagreements in the country.
“Dialogue between majority and opposition must serve the citizens, but also the EU priorities of the country. Efforts must be intensified to solve the current political gridlock in the country and improve political dialogue”, said Kocijancic.
EU office has also confirmed today that its negotiator in the talks between the majority and opposition in FYROM is Peter Vanhoute. He’s an envoy of the European enlargement commissioner, Stefan Fule. The talks started yesterday have not resulted in an agreement, as Gruevski has refused the idea of the opposition to form a technical government and the holding of fresh elections. But, the two leaders have agreed top continue political dialogue. /ibna/
