The European Union Council has issued several conclusions on FYROM, demanding an urgent delivery of reforms, an investigation over the wiretapping affair, the focusing on cross ethnic relations and implementation of the Ohrid Agreement and the solution of the political crisis.
The Council demanded an urgent solution of the crisis and it says that this must be a sustainable solution based on the June 2 agreement reached between leaders of the main political parties and European Enlargement Commissioner, Johannes Hahn.
“We send a very clear message to all political parties in FYROM that they must engage in a political dialogue, that they must carry on the process of reforms and we hope that our message will be heard. If the situation doesn’t change, we will come back to this issue and see what the EU can do on its side”, says Edgars Rinkevics, Latvian Foreign Minister.
The Council’s conclusions state that the June 2 agreement is the basis for the solution of the political crisis and the return of democratic values in the country, including good ethnic relations through the full implementation of the Ohrid agreement, strengthening of the court system, freedom of media and the holding of free and democratic elections.
The EU Council warned that these conclusions will be approved on Thursday and Friday by the heads of governments and states of the EU member countries. /ibna/
