EU and US react on Gruevski’s escape

The European Union does not wish to interfere in the case of former Prime Minister of FYROM, Nikola Gruevski and his political asylum application in Hungary. The European Commission’s spokesperson, Maja Kocijancic said that if Hungary, an EU member country approves this asylum request, then the EU will respect this decision. According to Kocijancic, this case should not be politicized.

Meanwhile, the US State Department says that Gruevski should suffer his sentence in FYROM.

“We believe that the whole process should take place in Macedonia”, the US State Department said, stating that they believe that Hungary will back the efforts made by the US to fight corruption and organized crime and that it will not offer refuge to former Prime Minister Gruevski. Former Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski has been sentenced to two years in prison for the purchase of a 600 thousand euro Mercedez Benz during the time he was in office. Meanwhile, he gave the announcement of his escape to Hungary through a post in his personal Facebook account. /ibna/
