The arrival of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to Sarajevo, at the Summit of the South-East European Cooperation Process, was marked by an incident on the runway of a Sarajevo airport, when members of the BiH Border Police and members of the Turkish President’s personal security clashed about procedures.
As the media reported, when the airplane in which the delegation of the Republic of Turkey headed by Erdogan landed, the members of Erdogan’s security, due to the rejection of procedures and regular control, came to verbal and then a brief physical contact with members of the Border Police of BiH, who are in charge of the International Airport in Sarajevo.
When the quarrel went a bit further, the members of the Turkish security guard took weapons from the plane and placed them on their belts. Everything calmed down when Erdogan came out of the plane.
This event was confirmed by the Director of the GP BiH, Zoran Galić, who praised the professionalism and reaction of the members of the BH police agency.
“Those who come to BiH will have to respect the laws of BiH, and not try to be above them. I commend the reaction of the BiH Border Police Unit because if they were not professionals and at a high professional level, as they should be, an open conflict would occur,” Galić said, adding that members of the BiH Presidency when travelling abroad always respect the laws of other states.
In the past, members of Erdogan’s security, allegedly, exhibited arrogant behaviour during their arrivals in BiH, and today they provoked the reaction of the BiH Border Police.
The Border Police Director told reporters that members of the agency should have arrested some of the members of Erdogan’s security, while the Turkish embassy in BiH announced that “a small incident had occurred”.
“There has been no quarrel and physical clash, and a short verbal dispute is quickly resolved, there is nothing in the event that could exaggerate. The relations between Turkey and Bosnia and Herzegovina are very good, and this important visit should not be overshadowed by such a simple event,“ announced the Embassy of the Republic of Turkey in BiH.
