European Parliament Foreign Affairs Committee has discussed the report drafted by Knut Fleckenstein MEP on Albania. The report has been supported by all political formations. This is reflected by the fact that only 23 amendments have been submitted for this report and this is the lowest number of amendments compared to previous reports on Albania and compared to the reports on other countries of the region.
During the debate, rapporteur Knut Fleckenstein has declared that the progress made so far for the integration reforms has been acknowledged and that efforts should continue to be made to implement them. Fleckenstein has pointed out the positive progress of the vetting process, but he has demanded Albanian authorities to continue the implementation of the reform in justice and to produce concrete results in the fight against organized crime and corruption.
Although Eduard Kukan MEP has recognized the progress that Albania has made so far, has been critical about the situation with crime and corruption in the country, stressing that these are acting as a threat for the country’s European integration process. /afp.al/ibna/
