European Parliament President Martin Schulz, who is paying an official visit to Cyprus, at the invitation of House President Yiannakis Omirou, is holding a meeting, in Nicosia, with Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades.
Schulz was welcomed at the Presidential Palace by Anastasiades, approximately at 0930 local time. During the official welcoming ceremony, the Cyprus police band played the EU anthem and the national anthem of Cyprus, while a National Guard contingent attributed honours.
Schulz laid a wreath at Archbishop Makarios` III statue, while President Anastasiades introduced the members of the Cypriot delegation to Schulz and the latter introduced the members of the EP delagation to Anastasiades.
Following that, Anastasiades and Shulz walked to the entrance of the Presidential Palace where they shook hands and then entered the building.
According to the programme of his visit, Anastasiades and Schulz had a tete-a-tete meeting, followed by talks between the delegations of the two sides.
On completion of the talks, Anastasiades and Schulz will make statements to the press.
