The European Parliament rapporteur for Kosovo’s liberalization of visas, Tanja Fajon has called on the Parliament of Kosovo to ratify the agreement on the demarcation with Montenegro, with the scope of launching the process of the visa liberalization.

She said that within next week, the Parliamentary Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Security, will debate for the first time on a report which it has prepared on the lifting of the visa regime for Kosovo.

Fajon said that after several debates in the European Commission, the ratification of the agreement on the border demarcation with Montenegro has been set as a condition for the liberalization of visas.

“The last report of the European Commission has made it clear that Parliament of Kosovo must ratify the agreement on the demarcation with Montenegro, before the visa system is lifted. In the recent days I have talked to the European Commission and other institutions and I  encourage parliament of Kosovo to ratify this agreement as soon as possible, otherwise we will not proceed any further. For now, there are four countries which are waiting for the visa regime system to be lifted and I would want Kosovo to be among the first ones”, Fajon said.

The agreement on the border demarcation with Montenegro, signed last year, but which has not been ratified by parliament, must be approved before the EU decides on the liberalization of visas. /balkaneu.com/
