Engel: The Albanian people’s rights must be taken into consideration in Preševo

Although the future of the talks on normalization between Belgrade and Pristina remains unclear, it is imperative that any final agreement takes into account the rights of Serbia’s Albanian population, said the Chairman on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, Eliot Engel.

“Although the future of talks on normalization between Belgrade and Pristina remains unclear, it is imperative that any final agreement takes into account the rights of the Albanians and seizes the opportunities for economic development in the Preševo valley”, Eliot Engel writes to the Mayor of the Preševo Municipality, Shqiprim Arifi.

According to the letter published by the Pristina-based Zeri newspaper, the mayor of Preševo will visit the United States between February 11 and February 13, and Engel requested a meeting with Arifi during his visit to discuss about the “Preševo Valley”.

Arifi noted that he would be responding to Engel’s invitation and would be discussing in Washington the individual and collective rights of Albanians in the three municipalities of southern central Serbia – Presevo, Bujanovac and Medvedja. /ibna
