Emigrants block the railway, authorities do not allow them to get in FYROM

More than 4 thousand refugees have blocked the railway from Thessalonica to Skopje, in the part of the border with FYROM. Due to this situation, a passenger train and a freight train have been blocked in the Greek territory. Three thousand refugees have gathered in the border area between the two countries in an attempt to enter FYROM, but they have been stopped by special units from FYROM.

Police are stopping large numbers of refugees from entering the territory of the country. A Greek special unit has also arrived in the border area. Thousands of refugees are trying to enter FYROM and then get to Serbia, from where they will aim to reach Western European countries.

In the meeting held last night, the government announced an emergency situation in the border areas in the southern and northern parts of the country, due to the large numbers of refugees.

The army has also been engaged to support in the border area. The government will set up an emergency committee to follow up the situation with the refugees. /ibna/
