A magnitude 5.1 earthquake knocked items off shelves and caused landslides and minor damages in the area of Pyrgos (western Peloponnesus) at 20.55 local time yesterday (Monday). There were no injuries reported. The epicentre was at a depth of either 5 or 10 km and 25 km south-east of Pyrgos. There were two main aftershocks (measuring 3,2 and 2,5) and about 10 minor ones.
Seismologist Efthimios Lekkas and Akis Tselentis said residents should not worry, but the area is “earthquake prone” and in the past there was also a measuring 6 earthquake –so people do not worry but are cautious.
