Speaker of parliament in FYR Macedonia, Trajko Veljanovski announced today that early parliamentary elections will be held on April 27 of this year.
The decision of the speaker of parliament followed the dissolution of parliament taken place yesterday upon the incentive of the largest Albanian party, BDI (Democratic Union for Integration), which demanded these elections, as it could not find consensus with the coalition party, VMRO-DPMNE for a joint consensual candidate for the presidential elections which will take place on April 13.
According to the decision taken this afternoon (06.03) by speaker of parliament Veljanovski, parliamentary elections will be held on the same day as the second round of presidential elections.
“I’d like to inform the public opinion that based on the Constitution and deadlines of the electoral code, in the quality of speaker of parliament, I have the constitutional obligation to announce the elections following the dissolution of parliament”, said Veljanovski.
Veljanovski said that he had just signed the decision for the announcement of early parliamentary elections whichg will be held on April 27, 2014. “The decision for the early parliamentary elections will be deposited to the State Election Commission, as the institution which organizes the elections. The same decision will also be deposited to the Ministry of Justice and Ministry of Interior”, declared speaker of parliament, Trajko Veljanovski.
Veljanovski appealed for the elections to be free and democratic and for all parties to comply with the electoral code. /ibna/
