For a strong commitment by the European Union to find a solution that benefits everyone spoke referring to Greece, the Deputy European Commissioner for the Euro and the Social Dialogue, Valdis Dombrovskis.
At a press conference after the end of the Ecofin in Brussels, Dombrovskis stressed that all parties cooperate only in one scenario which is “the extension of the current program and then placing some flexibility in the current context”.
Clarifying that there is no ultimatum, he added that “the issue of Greece was discussed constructively yesterday in the Eurogroup and we all believe that the best scenario for Greece and for Europe is to extend the current program”, noting that “there is a desire to evaluated some concerns from the Greek side, in order to find a way to have some flexibility in the current program”.
The Valdis Dombrovskis said the difficult reforms in Greece bore fruit last year, stressing that “it is very important that the country continues to build on this achievement,” and that “any move that deviated from this line would have a negative effect”.
He stressed that the EU wants to see Greece to recover economically. “There is a strong political will to find a solution that benefits everyone, provided it happens in the current context and all adhere to their commitments”, Dombrovskis added.
