US Senate held a hearing about the situation in the region of West Balkan with the situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina as an important part of the session. The senators, during the discussion, marked Serb member of the BiH Presidency and leader of the Alliance of the Independent Social Democrats (SNSD), Milorad Dodik, as the main obstacle “who blocks anything that would bring about progress”.
Speaking about the situation in the country, US Special Representative for West Balkan, Matthew Palmer, emphasized that BiH has yet to establish government institutions, even more than year after the General Elections.
“We are supporting efforts to reach an agreement or a compromise that allows for government formation at all levels as well as submission of state Annual National Plan (ANP) to NATO”, Palmer said.
The Bosniak and Croat members of the tripartite Presidency refuse to vote for the new Chairman of the Council of Ministers, who is supposed to come from the Dodik’s SNSD, but his party strongly oppose the adoption of the ANP and path toward NATO membership. Moreover, the party announced it would not allow for the next step in this direction to be made.
“Those who block changes are those who benefit the most from such a situation in the Balkans… We are trying to create pressure so that the Council of Ministers is formed and the ANP is sent, but the main obstacle in this is Milorad Dodik, who blocks anything that would bring about progress,” he said.
Dodik did not receive these accusations with the smile, his reaction was more bitter. He told the media that Palmer is “continuing practices of his predecessors”.
“Matthew Palmer would definitely not be able, on the Senate hearing, to say the famous sentence that witnesses say on US courts, which goes – I will speak the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth – and then say everything he said,” Dodik said.
The BiH Presidency Serb member pointed out that Palmer’s testimony was not truthful, because if it were, he would have to tell the members of the Senate why the United States or anyone else from the outside had to put pressure so that authorities are formed, when the formation of authorities after democratic elections is a common procedure in every country.
“Had he just told the truth why BiH has no authorities one year after the elections, I don’t think anyone in the Senate would believe him; that one man, one people, one Republika Srpska could be an obstacle to anything, to progress, to say the least. Progress of Republika Srpska and BiH, to an extent progress refers to RS; it is in our interest, not primarily in the interest of the US, Russia, Turkey, or any other great power,” Dodik said.
As he underlined, it is a pity that Palmer does not listen to his president, who recently said that the future belongs to sovereign and independent nations that protect their citizens, respect their neighbours and differences that make every country special and unique.
“I am not doing anything other than what the US President Donal Trump said,” Milorad Dodik pointed out./ibna
