Dissolution of parliament in FYROM has been introduced in the order of the day for Monday’s proceedings. Speaker of Parliament, Trajko Veljanovski has decided for the dissolution of the legislative institution to take place on 17 October. Meanwhile, the approval of the 2017 budget is also in the order of the day.

The decision of the speaker follows the request of the opposition led by SDSM (Macedonian Social Democratic Union) to dissolve parliament. As the largest party, VMRO-DPMNE said that it backs this incentive, but it conditions it with the 2017 budget approval.

Given that the elections have been scheduled to take place on 11 October, based on all legal deadlines, 17 October is the last deadline for the dissolution of parliament.

SDSM and its coalition partners said that no time will be lost and that the country will head to early elections.

“Every attempt to postpone the decision for the dissolution of parliament by VMRO-DPMNE and BDI (Democratic Union for Integration) shows that Nikola Gruevski’s power wants to evade 11 December elections”, said the head of the parliamentary group of SDSM, Goran Sugarevski.

VMRO-DPMNE led by Gruevski, said that next year’s budget must be voted.

BDI’s deputy chairman, Nevzat Bejta said that their party is ready to head to elections. “As a political party, we’re ready to enter the elections following so many failures and delays in this process. BDI will prove its legitimacy through these elections”, Bejta said.

MP Pavle Trajanov of the Democratic League, a small party that left the coalition with VMRO-DPMNE says that political parties have colluded in order not to hold elections on 11 December.

“I doubt that there will be elections on 11 December, because we have heard different comments by the four political parties that signed the Przino Agreement, indicating that they have colluded not to hold elections”, said Trajanov. /balkaneu.com/
