Brussels, 17 April 2013
Reports say it is likely that more negotiations between Kosovo and Serbia will resume as early as Wednesday in Belgium, despite Belgrade’s official refusal to the EU-bridged agreement.
Diplomatic sources confirmed that a new meeting shall take place in Brussels between Kosovo’s Prime Minister Hashim Thaçi and Serbian Prime Minister, Ivica Dacic.
Baroness Catherine Ashton, which is serving as mediator, confirmed the meeting.
“Thaçi and Daçiç will meet in an effort to reach an agreement on managing the northern regions of Kosovo, where the majority of the Serbian population lives,” said Ashton.
“I have asked them to come to this meeting with a constructive spirit, ready to explore different options and accept a mutual compromise,” her statement noted further.
The expected meeting on Wednesday comes after the EU Commission decided on Tuesday to postpone submitting reports on Serbia and Kosovo, which were otherwise scheduled to be discussed and voted today in the European Parliament. /ibna/
