The Deputy Prime Minister for European Affairs of North Macedonia Nikola Dimitrov met this morning in Brussels with the German Minister for Europe Michael Roth, whose country holds the EU presidency until the end of the year.
Dimitrov briefed Roth on the priorities of North Macedonia’s government for European integration and stressed that “the accession process is the best tool for introducing European standards and principles at home”.
“North Macedonia is determined to become a prosperous European democracy in which the rule of law prevails”, Dimitrov said.
The German Minister for Europe is in Brussels, where he is attending an EU ministerial meeting. Although North Macedonia is not officially on the agenda today, the ministers are expected to decide to approve the negotiating framework. Roth confirmed that North Macedonia remains a priority for the German Presidency.
“The first intergovernmental conference with North Macedonia, the start of accession negotiations, is one of the top priorities of the German EU presidency”, Roth said.
Deputy Prime Minister Dimitrov will meet today in Brussels with EU Enlargement Commissioner Oliver Varhelyi and European Commission Vice-President for Migration Margaritis Schoinas, while he is scheduled to pay a visit to Berlin next week, according to his office./ibna
