A German-Greek national – who was one of the nine victims of Friday’s mass shooting in Munich – died saving his sister.

According to the Daily Telegraph, 17-year-old Hussein Daitzik – whose Muslim parents had hailed from the Greek community of Arato Rodopi before they moved to Germany some 20 years ago – was shot twice in the back by the crazed gunman has he attempted to push his sister out of the way.

The person who police say killed nine people in Friday’s shootings in Munich was Ali Sonboly, the 18-year-old’s neighbors told CNN.

German police have not named the shooter, but they have said he was an 18-year-old man with dual German-Iranian nationality who was born and raised in Munich, and that they have searched his family’s apartment.

Daitzik, who had been planning to head to Greece in the summer on holiday, had been shopping at the mall with members of his family when the massacre occurred.

Media reports claim that the boy’s father had suffered a heart attack and was transferred to the hospital when he heard of his son’s death.

The teenager’s death has been confirmed by the Greek Foreign Ministry.
